Are you ready for game day?

By Schiff's Food Service

This year’s big game is slated for Sunday, February 5th.

The big game is the second largest US food consumption day, only surpassed by Thanksgiving. It’s estimated that consumers will spend a total of $15.5 billion on food, decor, team apparel, and other items- with most of that going toward food. Are you ready for their business?

Here’s 5 facts that may come in handy when prepping for your game day patrons:

  • According to the NRA, 48 million Americans order takeout or have food delivered to their doorstep for the Big Game. That means your take-out ware should be well stocked. If you aren’t usually offering take-out, consider running a special just for game day and advertise it often and early.
  • The California Avocado Commission expects 139.4 million pounds of avocados will be consumed this game day. If you don’t have an ace guacamole recipe, now might be the time to invest in a guacamole that will satisfy your customers’ craving.
  • Pork shoulder and pulled pork is the fastest growing pork item during the Super Bowl week per the National Pork Board. Four million pounds of pork shoulder and pulled pork were sold during the big game week in 2015, up 18 percent from the prior year.
  • Americans eat approximately 8.2 million pounds of tortilla chips during the big game.
  • Almost 57% of Americans who eat chicken wings say they like to dip their wings in ranch dressing, according to a new National Chicken Council poll. Knowing that, make sure you offer a choice or even an up charge for ranch in addition to the standard blue cheese.

We hope these game day food facts will get you pumped up for game day. Remember, SFS is ready to be on your team!
